Re-entry Press Conference

We just held a re-entry press conference, but not many media outlets showed up. I am working on getting the video uploaded and I'll have all the text transcribed here as well. I'm also sending audio files to all the radio stations I can across the state of Louisiana.

For those that will not be able to see the video feed, can you publish the results of the press conference here? Big question is when can the general population come back in to the parish to their homes, and when do we expect power to be restored by area (Ormond for me).
Thanks for the info.

Is the parish helping businesses get opened by getting us generators like they did after Katrina

I received a call that the sewer system is down. Is this correct. If so, is it East Bank or West Bank?

The most helpful info would be when we can get through the OTHER parishes to return to St Charles. Can we get through Baton Rouge from the west (I am in Texas)and down I-10 to I-310? I heard from others that one cannot cross the Miss River Bridge in Baton Rouge and come down I-10. True?

I am in Texas too, San Antonio. We evacuated by 90 to Lake Charles and then up I10...does anyone know if 90 through Morgan City/Houma are is or will be opened tomorrow?

Please update rumors that St. Charles Parish won't have power for 7-10 days. This comes from someone in the parish, saying there won't be gasoline at the pumps for a week and no power or sewer for 7-10 days. WE have an elderly parent with us who will need facilities & a/c. Thank you for your continued updates!

Thank you Renee & the whole team for the video on East bank.

Now how about one for the West bank, like Mimosa area, Willodale etc...

I reiterate our thanks for the whole parish team, sheriff, fire, w-wrks etc....

So when our parish opens, does that mean that we will be able to go through other closed parishes to reach it?

I just talked to Dennis Nuss, councileman in District 2, and a friend of mine. He is back in the parish and went to my house on Mimosa Avenue in Mimosa Park. I have power - outside lights I left on are lit. I have no house damage. No Cox cable/internet/phone yet. Wal-Mart is closed, but there were about 30 people getting gas at the pumps. The roof on 90 West (Sal's) looks like an asteroid fell into it. Dennis's house is OK, but no power (new sub-division at end of Lakewood Drive). Good news so far. We'll be heading home from Shreveport area tomorrow, going east on I-20 across to I-55, then south. We came up via 90 to Lafayette then I-49 to Shreveport, but that option is out now. Good luck to all. See ya'll on the other side.

Everyone needs to have patience. Just because the power was restored sooner in Katrina doesn't mean it will happen this time. eVery storm is different. Trust your public officials to give you the best information they have...They are working for you and have done a great job so far...They are the heroes that saved our parish...While you were sleeping in AC they were out putting sand bags and monitoring the weather.
Everyone is doing the best they can. Be grateful for what we have to return to and be patient..the rest will
come. RELAX. If you survived katrina you will certainly survive this.

I know our police cannot be everywhere, but I have gotten reports of looting. My sister stayed and she had to call 911 last nite to report a small group attempting to break into houses in Des Allemands. I think that is a big reason many people are rushing to get home, under the circumstances, I myself, do not have a generator and with two kids and no power, home is not the place to be. BUT, if I have to run the risk of my house being broke into, I may just have to do so.. POLICE WHERE ARE YOU ???

DancingGranny26 said...

Do you know where in Des Allemands this took place? I don't want to bring my elderly parent back to Des Allemands without security. Thank you.

That is such a shame about 90 West. I know the new owner put so much money and time and it had very good food. I hope he can re-build again.

Does anyone know if Hwy 90 is opened?

My Dad is at my house in Boutte (Magnolia RIdge area). We have no power. He said that the sign on Wal-Mart says they will be open tomorrow (WED) morning. DOn't know what they will have there though...

Highway 90 in St. Charles Parish is open and passable. But if you're talking about (or asking about) Highway 90 from Lafayette to Raceland, I doubt seriously it is ready for heavy traffic.
