Distribution center CLOSED

The West Bank Bridge Park commodity distribution location will NOT be open today (Friday). There are enough commercial establishments / stores coming online to handle these needs.

It is nice of SCP to send help to LaFourche, but there were SCP residents at the distribution center earlier today looking for help after being told the supplies would be available from 9-5.
While there are commercial establishments open for business, these folks were there because they have run low on money due to the mandatory evac, having to pay for the gas, lodging and food while they were gone. Is FEMA rationing the amount of ice and food that they give the parishes? Shouldn't SCP keep some here for the people returning after the storm who just don't have enough cash to go to the grocery store? Perhaps you could post a sign directing these people to alternative sources of assistance if there are any. It is a shame that residents here in our parish are in need, and the supplies intended for their needs are going somewhere else, no matter how well intended the gesture towards LaFourche was.

I don't know where they got information about the distribution center today; all of our communication was that if it was to be opened today, it would be there from 8-7...

The Red Cross has a shelter set up in Hahnville at the Landry School gym. The number is 504-620-3105. They can also call the parish for information on assistance 985-783-5050.

The information they were given about the Distribution Center came from the post on this blog yesterday after the center was closed due to running out of supplies early. As far as the distribution center being closed, I don't know who was in charge, but it is closed. I checked the blog this morning after they found that it was not operating and found the info stating the relief supplies had been sent to LaFourche Parish, and that the commercial establishments were open for business. So all the info is coming from the St. Charles Parish website/blog.
Our family isn't one of the ones in need, and since we are fortunate enough to, we have extended our assistance to a couple of families that we know personally. But, if there are one or two we know, there are probably others. We just felt that perhaps SCP might want to try and get some additional supplies and make them available to our residents who are returning with limited funds, and need som help. Is the Red Cross set up to handle assistance for those not staying in the shelter? We don't know all the people who were over there. Maybe you should contact some of the radio stations and let the others know where to go for help, or put it on Cox Channel 6. Maybe they have their electricity restored by now.

As new services become available we will be posting them through all of our media channels. Until then EOC and Red Cross is available.

What did SCP do??? We arrived back in town thursday from TN. to alot of wind damage and no power in our neighborhood. Before we left we read about the distribution center and planned to go friday morning, especially for the tarp, seeing how much of our roof was damaged. Imagine our shock to find out it was CLOSED!!!!!! To add insult to injury to find out that these things ment to help the people of our parish went to Lafourche???? Not that i begrudge them, but there are many including our neighborhood and many others just in St. Rose that are STILL without power and no help in sight now... they say find a store, well im sure like us many of our finances are running short!!!! Now in Katrina the national guard, red cross, and countless others were helping us with generators, food, ice, and the friendly smile was always needed...It seems that all agencies are treating this as a simple rainstorm rather than the major hurricane it was...just because New Orleans did not go under 20ft of water, why does it seem like no one wants to help us this time??? We are not asking for big checks,(but they handed those out by the bucket load for katrina) but to only offer commodoties to citizens that are STILL without power for one day is a JOKE!!!! Where is FEMA? Where is the RED CROSS? Why would our parish allow this? We all need to call every media outlet we can to find who is responsible for this!!!! Id like to tell SCP i did not sign up to play survivor, and being on a deserted island is what this feels like!!!!

We did request more items from the state but have not received any after our first delivery. Since then we have seen a lot more stores coming online.

If you need financial assistance, please contact FEMA 1-800-621-FEMA.
